~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ KIDD CREEK, ONTARIO ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ February 22-28, 1994 (Phase 2) June 8-13, 1994 (Phase 3) June 12-21, 1995 Kidd Creek Mine, Timmins, Ontario Industrial Partnership Program with Falconbridge Ltd. Hard copies can be referenced at the GSC with code GS2675-13 1994 (Phase 2&3): Field Crew: ? 1995: Field Crew: 8 total 2 shooters 4 loaders 2 recorders 1995: Falconbridge contact was Ray Band (Timmins). Geological Logs: ? Geophysical Logs: ? Borehole logging data were acquired to determine the acoustic velocity and density of rock units intersected by BH 4226. SURVEY LOCATION & ACQUISITION PARAMETERS ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1994-Phase2: ------------ * Source: Four 4m deep pits were dug for VSPs. In addition, 70 shallow drill holes for a pilot "side-scanning" survey. The pits were dug for an airgun. The cold weather did not allow use of the airgun, so the pits were filled to a minimum of 3m with water, and 150g and 225g pentolite boosters were used as sources. The same boosters were used as the source for the crossline survey, except that 5m deep shot holes were used instead. * Receivers & Equipment: in BH 5171, and BH 5100. Simultaneous recording in both boreholes: BH 5171 used the UofA 1100m 7-conductor cable and Bison 12-channel recording system. BH 5100 used a 1400+m 4-conductor cable from the Mineral Resources Division of Natural Resources Canada. The conductor limitation limited recording to only the vertical component. Recording was done on a 24-channel Bison recorder. Both boreholes used a Geosource tool containing three 14-Hz geophones. 1994-Phase3: ------------ * Source: Used 83 shallow drill holes. BH 5171. [One 70-shot level had already been acquired in Phase 2 using BH 5171] 150g pentolite boosters fired by 0-ms mining detonators. * Receivers: in BH 5171. 12-levels Spaced between depths 477-642m UofA 3-Component Geosource tool with 14Hz geophones. Stationary surface channels were used to obtain shot static corrections and to monitor waveform variations. * Equipment: 7-conductor 1100m cable. Recording done with a Bison 12-channel. 1995: ----- * Source: The DSI survey made use of 100 shotholes drilled along 3 lines, and also included 2 offset VSPs shot from pits dug beside the shot holes. All sources consisted of 175g pentalite boosters and 0-ms delay seismic caps. 2 lines were parallel to the strike of the main Rhyolite horizon (40 shot holes each), connected by one orthogonal cross line (20 shot holes). 2 small VSP profiles were acquired with the pits, coincident with shots 40 and 68 from the main survey. * Receivers: in BH 4226. 13-levels UofA 3-Component Geosource tool with 14Hz geophones. Spaced approximately every 7.5m from 944m to 1030m. * Equipment: 7-conductor 1100m cable. Recording done with a Bison 12-channel. More than 1300 shots (13 levels * 100 shotholes) fired in over 8 days. Shothole Coordinates: (UTM) ? Borehole collar coordinates: ? Borehole deviation data: ?
